Biological Activity
Phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate (PDBu) is a potent activator of protein kinase C (PKC). By mimicking endogenous diacylglycerol at the C1 domain, PDBu triggers PKC membrane translocation and activates downstream signaling pathways. This continuous activation stimulates cellular responses such as epidermal hyperplasia, inflammation, and ornithine decarboxylase induction, functioning as a major tumor promoter in mouse skin carcinogenesis models.
