Biological Activity

Phenylarsine oxide is a membrane-permeable protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibitor that targets vicinal dithiols within active site cysteine residues. By inhibiting protein tyrosine phosphatases, it modulates cellular phosphotyrosine levels and stimulates 2-deoxyglucose transport in skeletal muscle and adipocytes through insulin-independent pathways. Consequently, this compound alters GLUT4 translocation, disrupts endocytosis, and serves as a key tool for investigating insulin signaling mechanisms and metabolic regulation. [1][2]
