Biological Activity
Perindopril is a brain-penetrating inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) that exhibits potent anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic activities. By inhibiting ACE, perindopril suppresses the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to downregulation of renin-angiotensin system signaling. This inhibition results in reduced vascular resistance, decreased aldosterone secretion, and attenuation of downstream vascular inflammation and tissue fibrosis. [1]
