Pefloxacin mesylate is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent that functions as an inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. By inhibiting these essential bacterial enzymes, pefloxacin disrupts DNA replication and transcription pathways, leading to double-stranded DNA fragmentation and rapid bacterial cell death. It exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against various Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial pathogens.

- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
