Biological Activity

PD184161 is an orally active MEK inhibitor targeting the RAF/MEK/ERK signaling cascade. By suppressing MEK activity, it blocks downstream phosphorylation of ERK1/2 within the MAPK pathway. This pathway inhibition leads to the suppression of cell proliferation and the induction of apoptosis in sensitive cell populations. Targeted inhibition of this cascade demonstrates the central role of MEK in regulating cellular survival and growth dynamics. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
