Biological Activity

PD173212 is a selective N-type voltage-sensitive calcium channel (VSCC) blocker with an IC50 of 36 nM in IMR-32 functional assays. By inhibiting N-type calcium channels, PD173212 suppresses cellular calcium influx and neuronal signaling pathways involved in neurotransmitter release. This targeted channel blockade disrupts calcium-dependent signal transduction, leading to neuroprotective and antinociceptive phenotypes in preclinical disease models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
