Pachymic acid is a lanostane-type triterpenoid that acts as an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes, including CYP2C9, CYP3A4, and CYP2E1. Inhibition of these drug-metabolizing enzymes affects xenobiotic clearance and potential drug interactions, while pachymic acid also triggers endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress through activation of unfolded protein response pathways, leading to apoptosis and suppressed proliferation in cancer cells. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
