Oteseconazole (VT-1161) is a potent, orally active antifungal agent that selectively inhibits Candida albicans cytochrome P450 51 (CYP51) (Kd ≤ 39 nM) with minimal activity against human CYP enzymes. By inhibiting CYP51-mediated lanosterol 14α-demethylation, Oteseconazole blocks fungal ergosterol biosynthesis. This inhibition leads to ergosterol depletion and accumulation of toxic methylated sterol intermediates, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity and inhibiting fungal cell growth. [1]
