Opoponax oil is a natural botanical extract isolated from Commiphora erythraea that exhibits potent insecticidal and mosquito larvicidal activity. Exposure to the essential oil induces significant mortality in mosquito larvae, displaying LC50 values of 19.05 ppm for Culex restuans, 22.61 ppm for Culex pipiens, and 29.83 ppm for Aedes aegypti. Mechanistically, treatment upregulates metabolic detoxification genes, including CYP450 (CYP6M11 and CYP6N12) and GST-2, leading to disrupted larval survival. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
