Biological Activity

Obatoclax (GX15-070) is a potent pan-Bcl-2 antagonist that targets anti-apoptotic members of the Bcl-2 family, including Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, and Mcl-1. By disrupting the interactions between anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 proteins and pro-apoptotic effectors, Obatoclax overcomes Mcl-1-mediated resistance to apoptosis. This inhibition leads to mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization, cytochrome c release, and activation of caspase-dependent apoptotic pathways in various cancer models.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
