Biological Activity

Neotuberostemonine is an antitussive alkaloid derived from Stemona tuberosa that attenuates pulmonary fibrosis by suppressing macrophage recruitment and M2 macrophage polarization. By inhibiting pro-fibrotic macrophage activation, it reduces the expression of key mediators including TGF-β1, α-SMA, and collagen to limit extracellular matrix deposition. Furthermore, neotuberostemonine suppresses hypoxia-induced differentiation of primary lung fibroblasts into myofibroblasts by modulating HIF-1α signaling. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
