Biological Activity

NBD-556 is a low-molecular-weight human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) entry inhibitor that targets the envelope glycoprotein gp120 to block the gp120-CD4 interaction. By functioning as a CD4 mimetic, it induces conformational changes in gp120 that expose the coreceptor binding site. This activation promotes gp120 interaction with the CCR5 coreceptor and enhances antibody access to CD4-induced epitopes, thereby modulating downstream viral entry and infection pathways. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
