Biological Activity
N-Hydroxysuccinimide is a chemical coupling reagent that converts carboxylic acids into amine-reactive NHS esters through carbodiimide-mediated activation. These intermediate esters react efficiently with primary amines on proteins and peptides to form stable amide bonds. This reaction mechanism enables covalent protein immobilization onto functionalized surfaces, antibody conjugation, and biosensor surface modifications such as microfluidic surface plasmon resonance sensors for pathogen detection.
