N-Butanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (C4-HSL) is a small diffusible signaling molecule and quorum-sensing autoinducer that targets transcriptional regulators such as RhlR. By mediating population density-dependent quorum-sensing pathways, C4-HSL controls gene expression to regulate cellular metabolism, biofilm formation, and virulence factor synthesis in bacterial systems. Furthermore, C4-HSL serves as a cleavable linker in the synthesis of antibody-drug conjugates.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
