Biological Activity

N-Benzoyl-(2R,3S)-3-phenylisoserine is an essential structural component and side chain moiety of paclitaxel that plays a critical role in microtubule-stabilizing and antitumor activities. As part of the paclitaxel structure, this component promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubule polymers, disrupting normal mitotic spindle dynamics. Consequently, it induces cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and triggers apoptosis in cancer cells.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
