Biological Activity

N-Acetylglycine is an endogenous N-acetylated amino acid derivative and a minor dietary constituent that serves as a substrate for aminoacylase 1 (ACY1). It participates in cellular amino acid metabolism, where enzymatic cleavage by ACY1 hydrolyzes the molecule into glycine and acetate. As a naturally occurring constituent, N-Acetylglycine exhibits non-genotoxic and non-cytotoxic properties, supporting essential metabolic pathways without exerting acute toxicity. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
