Biological Activity

N-(p-Coumaroyl) Serotonin is a natural polyphenol isolated from safflower seeds that acts as an inhibitor of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling. It attenuates PDGF-induced phosphorylation of the PDGF receptor and downstream ERK1/2 signaling while blocking sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ release. Through these anti-atherogenic, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, it suppresses vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration and improves aortic wall distensibility.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
