Biological Activity

Myrislignan is a natural lignan isolated from Myristica fragrans Houtt that exhibits anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Downstream of NF-κB pathway suppression, myrislignan dose-dependently reduces the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophage cells. Consequently, it inhibits the production and release of inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
