Biological Activity

Myosmine is a minor tobacco alkaloid that acts as a low-affinity ligand for α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). By interacting with nAChR complexes, myosmine modulates cholinergic signaling pathways, influencing neurochemical responses and central neural signaling cascades. Naturally occurring in dietary sources as well as tobacco, myosmine serves as a useful tool for investigating subtype-selective nicotinic receptor interactions and cholinergic system modulation. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
