Morroniside is a naturally occurring iridoid glycoside that acts as a neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective agent. It inhibits neuronal apoptosis and downregulates matrix metalloproteinase 2/9 (MMP-2/9) expression, blunting oxidative stress-induced cell damage. Furthermore, morroniside modulates key signaling cascades including the MAPK and NF-κB pathways, demonstrating broad therapeutic potential in models of cerebral ischemia, diabetic angiopathy, renal injury, and bone resorption. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
