Moguisteine (BBR-2173) is a novel peripheral non-narcotic antitussive agent. It acts directly on peripheral nerve endings and airway sensory receptors involved in the cough reflex, operating independently of central opioid receptors. Moguisteine suppresses citric acid-induced and capsaicin-induced cough responses in preclinical models, effectively decreasing cough frequency and inhibiting airway hyperreactivity without suppressing central respiratory drive.
