Biological Activity

MK-28 is a potent and selective small-molecule activator of PERK (protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase). By stimulating PERK-mediated phosphorylation of eIF2α, MK-28 activates the unfolded protein response pathway to modulate translational control and cellular stress responses. Downstream PERK activation attenuates mutant huntingtin protein-induced cytotoxicity, rescuing striatal neurons from apoptotic cell death and promoting neuronal survival. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
