Biological Activity
Minodronic acid (YM529) is a third-generation nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that acts as a potent inhibitor of farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase and selectively targets purinergic P2X2/3 receptors. By inhibiting farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase, it suppresses protein prenylation within the mevalonate pathway, leading to osteoclast inactivation and apoptosis. Consequently, minodronic acid reduces bone resorption, prevents osteolytic bone destruction, and attenuates bone pain in preclinical models. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
