Biological Activity
Miglustat hydrochloride is a reversible iminosugar inhibitor of ceramide-specific glucosyltransferase and β-glucosidase 2. By inhibiting glucosylceramide synthase, it suppresses glycosphingolipid biosynthesis and reduces the intracellular accumulation of glucosylceramide. This pathway inhibition attenuates lysosomal substrate overload, downstream supporting research into dyslipidosis-related disorders including Gaucher type I, Tay-Sachs disease, and Niemann-Pick type C disease.
