Methylproamine is a bisbenzimidazole DNA-binding radioprotective agent that selectively interacts with DNA to attenuate radiation-mediated cellular damage. By directly binding the DNA minor groove, it facilitates the repair and scavenging of transient oxidative radical species formed on DNA during exposure to ionizing radiation. Consequently, this target-bound activity inhibits the formation of lethal DNA double-strand breaks and preserves genomic stability in targeted biological systems.
