Methylene blue trihydrate is a small-molecule inhibitor targeting soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC), monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A), and nitric oxide synthase (NOS). By suppressing nitric oxide signaling and monoamine degradation pathways, it modulates cGMP levels and neurotransmitter concentration. Consequently, this compound demonstrates antimalarial, antidepressant, and anxiolytic activities while exhibiting neuroprotective effects in preclinical models of neurodegenerative disorders and encephalopathy.
