Biological Activity

MEHP (Phthalic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester) is a phthalate metabolite and a competitive inhibitor of cytochrome P2C9 (CYP2C9) with an IC50 value of 6.37 μM. By inhibiting CYP2C9 activity, MEHP alters hepatic drug metabolism pathways and drug clearance mechanisms. Inhibition of CYP2C9 impairs xenobiotic oxidation, leading to decreased metabolic biotransformation and potentially altering downstream toxicological responses and endocrine homeostasis. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
