MeAIB (α-(Methylamino)isobutyric acid) is a synthetic amino acid derivative that functions as a selective substrate and inhibitor for System A amino acid transporters, specifically ATA1 and SNAT2. By competitively inhibiting SNAT2-mediated transport, MeAIB depletes intracellular levels of essential amino acids. This nutrient deprivation subsequently suppresses cell proliferation and impairs cell growth by disrupting the mTOR signaling pathway. [1]
