MBX-2982 is a selective and orally bioavailable agonist of G protein-coupled receptor 119 (GPR119). Activation of GPR119 by MBX-2982 stimulates intracellular cAMP accumulation and induces sustained, wash-resistant receptor signaling through membrane deposition. In hepatocytes, MBX-2982 suppresses total and nuclear sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1) expression, leading to the inhibition of hepatic lipid accumulation and lipogenic gene expression.
