Biological Activity

Loxoprofen sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory prodrug that targets cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) following conversion to its active trans-alcohol metabolite. By inhibiting COX-mediated arachidonic acid metabolism, it reduces the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). This blockade of COX pathways effectively attenuates downstream inflammatory signaling and pain responses in preclinical models.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
