Biological Activity
Lipofermata is an inhibitor of fatty acid transport protein 2 (FATP2) that blocks long-chain fatty acid uptake in Caco-2 cells with IC50 values in the low micromolar range. By suppressing FATP2-mediated lipid transport, Lipofermata prevents palmitate-induced oxidative stress, reduces induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress markers BiP and CHOP, and protects hepatocytes and pancreatic beta cells from lipotoxic cell death. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
