Biological Activity

Lincomycin Hydrochloride Monohydrate is a narrow-spectrum lincosamide antibiotic that targets the 50S ribosomal subunit in susceptible bacteria. By binding to 23S ribosomal RNA at the peptidyl transferase domain, it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with peptide bond formation during elongation. This suppression of protein synthesis leads to antibacterial activity against Gram-positive organisms, including staphylococcal and streptococcal species, as well as anaerobic pathogens like Bacteroides fragilis. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
