Lifitegrast is a small-molecule integrin antagonist that targets lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1). By blocking the interaction between LFA-1 and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), Lifitegrast inhibits T cell adhesion, activation, and recruitment. This blockade suppresses downstream release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, reducing ocular surface inflammation and attenuating pathological phenotypes associated with dry eye disease. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
