Biological Activity

Liarozole dihydrochloride is an orally active, cytochrome P450-dependent retinoic acid metabolism-blocking agent that inhibits CYP26 (IC50 2.2–6.0 μM) and rat CYP17 (IC50 260 nM). By blocking cytochrome P450-mediated metabolism of retinoic acid and testicular androgen synthesis, it elevates endogenous retinoic acid levels and suppresses androgen production, leading to sustained retinoic acid signaling pathways and inhibition of cell proliferation in retinoic acid-sensitive biological systems.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
