Biological Activity

L-Pyroglutamic acid (5-oxoproline) is an endogenous cyclic amino acid metabolite derived from glutamic acid and a key intermediate in the glutathione cycle. It is converted into glutamate by 5-oxoprolinase to sustain cellular glutathione homeostasis and support amino acid transport. Through its role in central glutamatergic signaling and redox regulation, L-pyroglutamic acid influences neuronal metabolic activity, cellular antioxidant defenses, and neurotransmitter recycling processes. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
