Biological Activity
L-Methionine-DL-sulfoximine is an irreversible inhibitor of glutamine synthetase (GS). By blocking glutamine synthetase activity, it disrupts glutamate-glutamine cycling within the central nervous system and primarily affects the metabolic and morphological functions of astroglia. Inhibition of this enzyme pathway modulates neuronal excitability and epileptic susceptibility, resulting in altered onset and progression of behavioral and electrographic seizure activity in rodent models.
