Biological Activity

L-Homoserine is a key non-proteinogenic amino acid and metabolic intermediate in the aspartate pathway. It is formed from L-aspartate-4-semialdehyde by homoserine dehydrogenase and serves as an essential precursor in the biosynthesis of L-threonine, L-methionine, and L-isoleucine. Enzymatic phosphorylation of L-homoserine by homoserine kinase yields O-phospho-L-homoserine, facilitating downstream amino acid production required for cellular protein synthesis and metabolic regulation. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
