Biological Activity

MK-571 sodium salt (L-660711) is a selective, orally active antagonist of the leukotriene D4 receptor and an inhibitor of multidrug resistance-associated proteins MRP1 and MRP4. By blocking CysLT1 receptors, it attenuates leukotriene-mediated inflammatory signaling pathways and smooth muscle contraction. Additionally, inhibition of MRP1 and MRP4 transporters modulates the intracellular accumulation and efflux of organic anions and xenobiotics, regulating cellular resistance phenotypes.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
