Biological Activity

Kitasamycin (Leucomycin) is a macrolide antibiotic with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against diverse pathogenic microorganisms. It exerts its antibacterial effect by reversibly binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting translocation during protein synthesis and halting bacterial growth. Consequently, kitasamycin disrupts essential cellular functions and blocks bacterial proliferation across a range of Gram-positive and select Gram-negative pathogens. [1]
