Kanamycin is an antibacterial aminoglycoside that targets the bacterialS ribosomal subunit to disrupt protein synthesis. By binding to the ribosomal decoding A site, it inhibits translocation and induces mRNA misencoding during translation. This disrupts bacterial protein fidelity, yielding potent antibacterial activity against pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including both drug-sensitive and resistant strains.
