Biological Activity

K6PC-5 is a ceramide derivative that functions as an activator of sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1). Activation of SPHK1 increases intracellular sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) production and induces transient intracellular calcium mobilization, downstream signaling pathways that promote keratinocyte and epidermal differentiation. Elevated intracellular S1P generation mediated by K6PC-5 also attenuates viral entry and viral protein production in cellular models of infection. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
