(2S)-(-)-isoxanthohumol is a natural prenylflavonoid derived from hops (Humulus lupulus) that functions as an antiproliferative and antiviral agent. It demonstrates broad-spectrum cytotoxic activity against various human malignancies, including breast, ovarian, prostate, and colon cancer cells. Additionally, it exhibits antiviral properties against DNA and RNA viruses, such as herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), thereby inhibiting cellular proliferation and viral replication. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
