Biological Activity
IR-780 is a lipophilic heptamethine cyanine near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent dye that preferentially accumulates in tumor cells. Upon cellular entry, IR-780 localizes predominantly to mitochondria, driven by mitochondrial membrane potential in malignant cells. This selective mitochondrial accumulation enables near-infrared imaging and facilitates targeted photothermal and photodynamic induction of reactive oxygen species, ultimately promoting apoptotic cancer cell death.
