Biological Activity
Imiquimod maleate is a small-molecule immune response modifier that acts as a selective Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist and an adenosine A2A receptor antagonist. Activation of TLR7 via the MyD88-dependent signaling pathway stimulates the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and induces antiviral proteins such as cystatin A. This immunomodulatory activity leads to robust antitumoral and antiviral efficacy against lesions including actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, and viral warts. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
