Biological Activity

Aramchol is a fatty acid-bile acid conjugate that acts as an inhibitor of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) and a cholesterol solubilizer. In hepatic stellate cells, downregulation of SCD1 and upregulation of PPARγ by Aramchol suppress fibrogenic gene expression, including COL1A1 and ACTA2. This modulation of SCD1 activity reduces liver fat accumulation and mitigates hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis models. [1][2]
