Biological Activity

Hexahydrocurcumin is a major active metabolite of curcumin that acts as a selective COX-2 inhibitor. By downregulating COX-2 expression without affecting COX-1, it suppresses inflammatory pathways, reduces cancer cell viability, and induces apoptosis. In preclinical models of colon cancer, hexahydrocurcumin attenuates preneoplastic aberrant crypt foci formation and enhances chemotherapeutic sensitivity, demonstrating potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antineoplastic activities.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
