Biological Activity
H2DCFDA (DCFH-DA) is a cell-permeable fluorogenic probe widely utilized to detect intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Upon entering live cells, non-fluorescent H2DCFDA is cleaved by intracellular esterases into 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescin, which is subsequently oxidized by ROS into the highly fluorescent compound 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescein (Ex/Em = 488/. This intracellular conversion enables sensitive, quantitative assessment of cellular oxidative stress and oxidative metabolism in phagocytes and other cell types. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
