Biological Activity

Guvacine hydrochloride is an Areca catechu alkaloid and GABA transporter inhibitor displaying modest selectivity across GABA transporter subtypes, inhibiting human GAT-1, rat GAT-1, rat GAT-2 (IC, human GAT-3, rat GAT-3, and human BGT-3. By blocking GABA reuptake into neurons and glia, it enhances synaptic GABA signaling and modulates inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
