Biological Activity

Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum, systemic herbicide and phosphonomethyl derivative of glycine that acts as an inhibitor of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS). By blocking EPSPS within the plant shikimate pathway, it disrupts the biosynthesis of the essential aromatic amino acids phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan. This inhibition leads to the depletion of key protein precursors and ultimately halts plant growth and metabolic processes.
