Biological Activity

Glycyrrhetinic acid is a bioactive pentacyclic triterpenoid aglycone derived from glycyrrhizic acid that acts as an inhibitor of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11β-HSD). It exhibits potent anti-proliferative and apoptosis-inducing activities across various cancer cell lines. Inhibition of 11β-HSD and modulation of intrinsic mitochondrial apoptotic pathways lead to cell cycle arrest, elevation of reactive oxygen species, and induction of programmed cell death in target cancer cells.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
